player photo Rachel Hayes is this year's Captain and is also our hooker. Having spent many years lounging around in the centres she decided 2 years ago to give hooker a try, and has never looked back. She is renowned for her use of neoprene. She works with computers at Northern Rock.

player photo Ruth Scott (née Wilkinson) is in her third year as the team's manager. She has had many a change of position in her rugby career and has extricated herself from the second row, via the back row to play scrum half. She has also represented the North East of England in the divisional championships. Struth is got married over the summer and we used the National 7's as her hen weekend. Her husband Jason produces the post-match scran.

Sally Fitzpatrick is our club secretary so has the job of doing all our admin for RFUW HQ at Newbury. She is also our longest serving player, having started at Uni many years ago. She is the cornerstone of the scrum at tight head. She has also represented the NE and had a North of England trial. Sal works for excellent IT training agency, Taitec (they sponsored our tour).

player photo Helen Greenwell after having several years as Captain, is settling back into the ranks to enjoy the simple pleasures of playing rugby. She is our No8 and as such gets lots of push-over tries, ensuring that she is in line for the awards at the end of the season. Helen is a police officer.

player photo Clare Iley found she was working with a sometime coach of our team, having got a job in the area after finishing university. She was immediately sent along & recruited. She is an excellent full-back or centre but this season will be running the backs from fly-half. Huge congratulations to her & Glenn at the recent announcement of their engagement. Clare is renowned for breaking into a dance at the drop of a hat.

Sara Baxter joined us last season from Durham City, is a hard running centre, but can also play at fly half. Nicks crims for a living and is taking her Sergeants exam soon.

player photo Helen Errington, well what can you say about Scooter? Recently retired; from the coach's point of view she was great - she would play anywhere in the scrum, and out of it given half a chance. She has spent years in charge of our sponsorship and fundraising efforts and is currently planning her World Domination Extravaganza.

Lisa Peacock works as a prison officer. This sometimes limits her playing but she is a good second row when available.  (Much better than Spike).

player photo Cate Adamson is also a goal keeper in hockey, so obviously enjoys the contact side of sport. On tour 2 years ago she blossomed as a flying winger, but has recently taken a blow to the head and professed a wish to play in the second row. Cate is our new Treasurer, and she works for Sage, promoting their wonderful web design and hosting services.

player photo Ali McMullon came to us from football, and as a Firefighter is fit to start with - a real bonus. A hard running centre and the more she plays the better she gets. Ali was selected for the North East squad this season, much to her surprise but not to ours. A stunning appearance on Fort Boyard is one of her many talents.

player photo Natalie Badcock is this year's fixture secretary & captain of vice, and with her enthusiasm we will be playing every week! Nat is a free running flanker/No 8 who likes to score tries and is keen to try anything. She is a teacher, which may explain some things, but not all. We are delighted that her potential has been recognised by England and hope that she gets more clothing emblazoned with the Red Rose.

Ros Stainer-Smith is in her third year at Sunderland University. She is a very strong runner with the ball and reads the game well. Celebrated her 21st birthday by coming training. Doesn't like netballers.
Back to Team Photo
player photo Lesley Wheatley has rejoined us after a spell at Novos, and this has finally given her the opportunity to play on the flank, and if she is not limping by the end of the game it's not been a good one. Lesley is probably our hardest tackler, and has just joined the police, so you have been warned.

player photo Pauline Palmer is a mum to 2 kids so can't play much. It's a shame for us as she's a tough loose-head prop. Pauline works for the local Chamber of Commerce and looks v. smart in a suit.

Alison Taylor is a great asset now that she's finished Uni at Leeds Met. Playing wherever she is put with great gusto, she makes a great contribution to the game. Compo is in league with Coney to make sure we never have any free time.
